Accidental
Love
If flowers bear messages of heartfelt love, symbolizing the myriad
of human emotions, then a flower shop is a place where many different
love stories can be found…
Rena is an attractive young owner of a new flower shop. Trying to
get over a failed relationship, she moves to Shanghai where she starts
a small shop selling with what she loves most, flowers. Rena knows
all about the symbolism of flowers and the messages they convey. She
also thinks she knows all about love, but she soon learns the deeper
meanings of love through her encounters with her regular customers:
a dying old lady, a strange over-friendly man, a teenage guy who loves
a hearing-impaired girl, a filial man with a handicapped mum and an
insecure single clerk in her late 30s.
Every face that enters a flower shop has a different love story, love
in its many facets. Is love stronger than death? What is the difference
between love and duty? Does altruistic love exist? How does a person
find self-love? How should true love be expressed? How does a man
deal with a commitment he has made to someone and a love he has developed
for another? And how does a florist feels if a guy she has fallen
in love with always buys flowers from her for another girl?
Rena also eventually finds herself in her own love entanglement when
she is torn between two men – a Catholic priest who cannot love
her, and a romantic guy who reciprocates her love at the wrong time.

Creator's Statement
A flower shop, with its metaphors and inherent meanings,
is a perfect premise for different love stories to converge. The symbolism
of flowers and the messages they convey, juxtaposed with the strong
human stories create both a poetic touch and a personal feel to this
romantic film. Add to that the great potential for cinematographic
possibilities that the myriad of colourful flowers offer and melodious
original soundtracks to enhance the emotions of the characters and
we have a story that will endear itself to the audience.
Every face that enters a flower shop has a different love story, love
in its many facets. I wish to explore the different facets of love
and issues that are prevalent in our modern society.
_ Is love stronger than death? In a society where many marriages are
short-lived and relationships temporary, are there still stories of
undying love that can inspire us?
_ Does altruistic love exist? Disappointed by the selfishness in the
world, do we start to wrongly presume rare acts of love as perverted
motives? In a society that has grown increasingly superficial, do
we doubt that anyone can get to know someone else more deeply without
wrong intentions?
_ How does a person measure his / her worth? How does a person find
self-love?
_ Duty and filial piety are esteemed values in Asian societies. But
is there a difference between love and duty?
_ How should true love be shown? In a way that expresses our heart
or a way that the other party can feel?
_ How does a man deal with a commitment he has made to someone and
a love he has developed for another?
This is a universal story that will touch the hearts of many. Love
is dissected to its various forms and portrayed as they really are:
sometimes happy, sometimes sad, sometimes funny, sometimes mad, sometimes
bittersweet, sometimes mistaken… but always powerful. With its
universal theme and deep messages, this film can essentially go the
commercial route to reach to the masses and yet also enter the festival
circuit. Visually beautiful, and postcard perfect, these 6 short stories
on love weaved into one main plot will bring the audience into a world
they wish it had been theirs to keep.
